It's the equivalent of opening your image in Photoshop, exporting via save for web, reducing dimensions to something under 500px wide and kicking the optimization all the way up to the preset "JPEG LOW" - which is 0 quality on a scale of 100. It's the year 2018, we have connection speeds of over 12mb/s almost anywhere that is populated, SVG format is gaining recognition, the internet has evolved to support mobile more than desktops and beyond HD with video - and yet Google is still doing this. No matter what you do, your inline images will get interpolated. Google's gmail 'features' an automatic optimization process that is applied to all images embedded / inline, and we have no choice in the matter. There are blurry compression artifacts around each piece of text-making it look like someone tried to erase the text with a dirty eraser.Īny actual Google solution would be a great relief, but I'm not holding my breath. (I'm still not sure how this happened as I've used Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Pro with zero issues for years I'm not sure how the setting got changed.) I hope this helps others who may face this issue now and in the future.I have the same issue and have tried every option presented here in the comments, but nothing works. This method fixed the appearance of fonts in my PDFs.

Hopefully, your document fonts, images, etc, should look identical to the way they appear in your Word doc.

  • For the menu item “Smooth Text:” select either “Monitor” or “For Laptop/LCD screens” (you'll likely find that it's set to "None", which appears to be the problem it's a visual setting, and doesn't appear to have anything to do with embedded fonts, font licensing, etc, as many users have concluded.).
  • In either Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat Pro, go to Preferences > Page Display.

It bugged me for a couple days and following is the solution I stumbled on today. It’s now June 2020 and judging from many communities, boards and discussion threads the issue of why Microsoft Word seems to convert to low-quality Adobe Acrobat PDFs seems to still plague a lot of people. You might already have moved on from this question, but in case anyone else is facing this issue I thought I'd post.
